Romans 10:1 “Brothers, my heart’s desire and prayer to God for them is that they may be saved!”
At the core of God’s message is the understanding that we must be “good” (righteous) to be “saved”.
There is a Problem – Ignorance
- They did not understand Christ’s provision
- They did not understand the need for faith
There is a Contrast
“Theoretically there are two possible ways to be saved”
- By keeping the law
- By exercising faith
There is an Answer
The righteousness that is necessary “Is near you”
The answer is as close as your mouth and your heart
What is the gospel that we are asked to believe?
- Jesus Christ is Lord
- Jesus Christ died, was buried and resurrected from the dead
With these two statements we understand:
- We are sinners and sin has destroyed our relationship with God
- We cannot be “good enough” to restore this broken relationship
- Jesus Christ paid for our sin when he went to the cross
- When you by faith, believe these truths, you are “justified”
There is a Promise –
- Anyone who believes in Him will not be put to shame
- Anyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved
There is a Required Response – This puts the decision back on you.
- You must believe
- You must confess
- You must call on the name of the Lord
