A Consuming Fire

1 Kings 18

The stage is set, the confrontation is classical, the opportunity is enormous, the impact is eternal

We will consider this account from two perspectives:

I. THE CONDITIONS SURROUNDING SOCIETY

A. There was an unbearable problem

The Problem manifested itself in 3 ways:

1. Drought
2. Depravity
3. Desperation

B. There were ungodly prophets

C. There were uncommitted people

II. THE CHARACTER OF GOD IN HIS

RESPONSE

1. God demonstrated unparalleled power
2. God displayed undeniable proof
3. God desires an uncompromising people

CONCLUSION:

The question before us every day of our life:

If we believe that God is God, and if he really is the creator, sustainer, savior why do we continually drift back to mediocre complacency?
